Julie: Welcome, Becky. Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
Becky: Hi Julie. Thanks for inviting me to visit with your readers. I’m a writer, reader, wife, mother, grandmother and small town woman. I love my computer, and I’m somewhat addicted to social media.
Julie: What influenced you to get published? How long did it take for your first book to get published?
Becky: At one time, I had a 10 book per week reading habit. I’ve loved contemporary romance most of my life and that love of reading naturally evolved into a love of writing. I wrote for many years before submitting work and getting published.
Julie: What makes your characters so vulnerable yet strong? Can you describe them to us? What do you do when characters stop talking to you when writing?
Becky: In my books, loyalty and trust are huge issues. Emotional vulnerability is much more prevalent in my work than physical vulnerabilities. I like to help my character’s grow emotionally to the point where they can love freely and commit to long-term relationships. Most of my characters have inherent strength of character. They rarely stop talking to me. Maybe it’s because I’m such a chatty person myself!
Julie: Could you tell us a couple of favorite books that inspired you to write?
Becky: I’m afraid I can’t pinpoint one or two books. There are so many, but category (series) romances were definitely a starting point for me.
Julie: Is music a factor for you while you are writing? Do certain songs put you in the right frame of mind to write certain stories?
Becky: I love music, all styles, but especially contemporary country. Over the years, certain lyrics and circumstances in songs have triggered plot ideas, but I don’t have specific songs for specific stories. I do like my music loud and it’s always playing when I work.
Julie: What do you feel is the most important thing that a first-time author should know?
Becky: That’s tough because the publishing world is constantly changing. The only lasting advice I could offer is be professional (no diva attitudes!) and persevere.
Julie: Other than writing, what are some of your passions in life?
Becky: Ah, the grands. I have 6 grandchildren; 3 boys and 3 girls. The oldest is 8 and the youngest is a set of 3 year old twins. They are truly the joys of my life.
Julie: What books are currently on your nightstand?
Becky: Catherine Mann’s COVER ME, Jayne Ann Krentz’ COPPER BEACH and a whole lot more on my Kobo eReader.
Julie: What can readers expect next from you?
Becky: I’ve had fan requests for stories about additional characters in my contemporary western, BRIDLETON, so I’m currently writing a spinoff with the working title, Cheyenne’s Cowboy.
