Reggie Ridgway lives in Southern California on a hill overlooking a big lake. He has a wife and five children who have blessed him with many grandchildren. He work in the medical field and has a BA from National University, Vista. He loves to travel, play golf and read and write novels.
Julie: Welcome, Reggie. To get us started why don’t you tell us a little about your chosen genre and your book, In The Midnight Hour?
Reggie: In The Midnight Hour is written in the “medical thriller genre”. It can also be in the “thriller genre”.
This is a story about a Doctor who is placed in prison for the murder of his wife. He was wrongly accused however, and has a deep seated hatred for the people who were responsible for his wife’s death and for his being found guilty. After crashing a stolen vehicle in a high speed chase after escaping from prison, he finds himself convalescing in the very hospital he was once the Chief of Surgery. Now he can exact revenge on those who wronged him while pretending to be in a comatose state in a hospital bed. He might have gotten away with it but for the efforts of a detective, a young intern and an ICU nurse. This is a love story and a story of revenge and murder in a hospital setting.
Julie: How would you describe what you’re writing right now using only five words?
Reggie: Compelling medical thriller, breathtaking, exciting.
Julie: I love reading the warnings on the blurbs for many books. If you could write a warning label for yourself as a person or an author, what would it say?
Reggie: This novel could cause frequent heart palpitations and may cause nightmares.
Julie: Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Reggie: My guilty pleasure is reading. I read a book a week and find it a distinct pleasure in my life.
Julie: Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.
Reggie: I am frequently asked where I get my ideas for my novels. I have to honestly say I don’t know. When I sit down to write the story unfolds like it was happening real time in my head. I guess that makes me a looney tune.
Julie: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Reggie: I would like to live in Australia. I have always wanted to go there. I especially like the coastal cities.
Julie: Do you have any writing rituals that you must do before you sit down to write?
Reggie: I write in the early hours so I guess all of the usual morning rituals are a given. However, I do like to get it done before anyone else wakes as I can become easily distracted. Unless I am really in “The Zone”. Then I am a bear and everyone knows not to disturb me or incur my wrath. LOL
Julie: If you weren’t writing thrillers what genre would you write and why?
Reggie: I also write young adult. No really. I grew up reading Tom Sawyer and White Fang. All of them inspired me to pick up the pen so it was natural for me to write like those authors with young people as the main characters.
I have written three short stories so far in the YA genre.
