Valerie Zambito lives in upstate New York. After having been involved in a busy sales career for fifteen years, a great love of world building, character creation, and all things magic led to the publication of the ISLAND SHIFTERS adult epic fantasy series in October, 2011, and a young adult paranormal series called ANGELS OF THE KNIGHTS in 2012.

Julie: Welcome Valerie. Please tell us a little about yourself and how long you’ve been writing. Have you always gravitated toward being an author?

Valerie: Hi Julie!  I published my first novel, an epic fantasy called Island Shifters in October, 2011.  Since then, I added another two books to that series and the first two books in the Angels of the Knights series.

I have always loved to write.  I think that is what most authors will tell you.  I simply love the genre of fantasy and having a front row seat to heroic characters facing epic struggles and limitless magical forces.  There’s nothing like it.

Julie: What does a typical writing day consist of for you?

Valerie: I have three sons, so on the days they are in school, I am able to devote the rest of the day to writing.  While I am prone to procrastinate, a comfy chair and lots of coffee see me through ;)

Julie: If you could trade places with a character in any of your releases, who would it be and why?

Valerie: Definitely Kiernan Everard in Island Shifters.  She knows how to hold her own in a fight for sure, but she also has this intense love story with her husband, Beck, that as mere mortals we simply have no frame of reference for.

Julie: Angels of the Knight: Blane is book two in your Angels of the Knight series. Tell us how you came up with this series and what readers can except from these stories.

Valerie: One evening last spring, I had this idea for an angelic teen hero.  As a writer of adult epic fantasy, it was a complete 180 for me to turn to teen paranormal fantasy, but this new character kept niggling at my thoughts, and the mental image of Fallon and her back story were very compelling to me.  I just had to get to know her better.  At that point, I shelved all of my other WsIP and released Fallon three months later.

Julie: What is something your readers would be surprised to know about you?

Valerie: In addition to the kiddos, I am the wife of a New York police officer.  After a busy sales career at a Fortune 500 company for over fifteen years, I quit to pursue my dreams.  In my spare time, I like to…write.  Yeah, I’m obsessed.  Occasionally, I’ll stop out to feed the kids or share a glass of wine with a friend, but mostly I’m engrossed in a fictional universe or two.

Julie: Is there something special you do to celebrate when one of your book is released?

Valerie:  Oh, yes, I can do a great version of the happy dance.  Think Elaine from Seinfeld and you’ll get the idea. :)

Julie: What’s can we expect next for you?

Valerie: Book Three in the Angels of the Knights – Nikki series will be complete in a few months, and then I will release Book Four in the Island Shifter series.  After that?  Who knows.  In the world of fiction, choices are infinite.
