I enjoyed this Redwood pack novel much more than the first one, which was little more than a novella. A Taste for a Mate was a full-length novel and went far more into the Redwood pack’s world and background than An Alpha’s Path.
In A Taste for a Mate, we meet Willow Delton (a skinny baker…no such thing!) and of course the Beta of Redwood, Jasper. From the get go we get action and adventure as Willow is captured and held hostage simply because Jasper has marked the bakery his (think wolves with scent). Jasper and the pack fight to get Willow back and to save her Jasper must tie her to him. This at first leads to a lot of angst… Did Jasper mate with me out of necessity? Will Willow ever forgive me for taking away her choice? But the two belong together and soon find themselves facing much more difficult problems, like dissention in the pack, an evil rival pack, and a demon.
Willow and Jasper were fun characters to read about and their chemistry almost zings off the page. The author decided to go the non traditional route and had them thrown together in the beginning, only to let Willow and Jasper have a long time to really get to know one another before more trouble starts. I liked this and think it added to the story. The third book is about Reed and you can bet I’ll be picking it up as soon as it hits the Internet. Enjoy!
