Funny Valentine by Sienna Mynx is a fun read and I enjoyed every minute of it. The novel started out good, got even better and by the end it was simply amazing. The raw passion and chemistry Tia and Melvin share is like a presence in the room. I love how they stumbled into this thing because if Tia hadn’t been desperate she would never have given Melvin the time of day. As it turns out, it becomes the best rash decision she’s ever made. Tia is an educated, uptight executive with a long list of must haves in a man but spends her life wondering why she is alone. Melvin. a good but simple man, is a great match for Tia but she would have never known if it weren’t for her dire situation. Melvin has an interesting background being a white child adopted into a black family. Tia who is African-American doesn’t look down upon Melvin because of his color; she believes his social status is beneath her. Yet in the end she realizes all things are not what they seem and never judge people solely based on sight.
In a family of all girls where success is measured by your ability to snag a husband and not a successful career Tia Jackson feels pressured into lying about having a great love life. Tia’s lie catches up with her when she has to bring her “boyfriend” to her sister’s wedding. Realizing she needs a stand-in or risk being discovered, Tia snags the first workable man she can find and introduces him as her date. That man happens to be Melvin Reed who is also the florist for the wedding. Melvin has known Tia for years but she has never acknowledged his existence until now. Finally garnering the attention of the woman who has filled his dreams; Melvin has every intention of making their fake relationship a very real and lasting one. Tia’s first instinct is to dismiss Melvin until she begins to realize he is really a diamond in the rough.
