If You Asked Me To by Aubrey Leatherwood held me captive not because of the hot sex scenes but by the raw beauty of Ray’s feelings for Shelley. This interracial romance is affirmation that love has no boundaries and that despite a person’s circumstances there is someone who will love them just as they are. Ray was engaged to a beautiful able-bodied woman but he found himself hopelessly in love with a physically challenged woman who by all appearances wanted nothing to do with him. As the story unfolds it turns out Shelley is really afraid of rejection because that’s what she’s experienced her entire life. If You Asked Me To is the perfect novel for readers who want romance with substance, readers who treasure thought-provoking stories over fleeting moments of hot sex. But don’t get me wrong, Shelley and Ray have a very passionate sex life and they are not relegated to the missionary position either because Ray and Shelley bring creativity to their sex life. This relatively short story is a joy to read and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Raymond Costas is engaged to his beautiful best friend and business partner, Jessica and their construction business just netted a handsome profit. He decides to celebrate by playing a couple hands of poker at the Black Horse Downs Casinos. The evening takes an interesting turn when he notices the only female player at the table. Ray can’t take his eyes off the dark haired, dark-eyed beauty who is a master at the tables, but he is stunned to discover she is physically disabled. The moment quickly passes and Ray realizes despite her disability there is something about Shelley Miller that draws him, something he does not feel for his fiancée. He comes clean to his fiancée and turns his attention towards wooing Shelley. Shelley cares for Ray but won’t stay with him because she believes he can find a better woman. Ray only wants to be with Shelley but he’s a man and he has his pride. He’s not going to beg but he’s prepared to love Shelley forever, if only she asks him to stay.
