I love everything about a Shara Azod novel, and Welcome Back, Kimber is another page-turner. The novel is not very long and reads fast with one startling revelation after the other from a beginning that immediately grabs your attention. The level of deceit is so intricate that it makes for a compelling and believable plot. Holden and Kimber are great characters I wouldn’t mind reading more about them. The connection between Holden and Kimber is still there, even years later and is believable because the author gives a history of their lives. This authenticates the deep feelings they have for each other. This book has some really super villains but they get their just dues by the end of the book. The climatic ending reveals more surprises and clearly shows that there is more to the story of Holden and Kimber yet to come. I can’t wait to read the second half of their story.
Kimberly Knowles knows tragedy. At seventeen she was snatched from the home where she grew up, and is forced into seclusion. These drastic steps were taken by her father after he learns Kimber is pregnant by her high school sweetheart. Kimber is drugged while having the baby and later told the child had died while she was giving birth. Nine years later Kimber returns to where it all began only to receive the shock of her life. Her daughter has been living with her teen sweetheart, now a grown man all this time. Holden spent years hating Kimber for turning her back on their love and their lovechild. However, it was all a well-orchestrated scheme of manipulation and deception created by Kimber’s father and helped along by Holden’s mother. There seems to be too much hurt to forgive, but that is what Kimber and Holden must do if they intend to not let this tear them apart again, and to have the family they so desperately wanted as teenagers.
