Droid. What a great word. Droid. Digi just loves saying it cause it’s FUN! Droid, Droid, Droid, Droid…okay, she’ll stop now. But the Droid is more than just a fun word. It’s also a great device for reading ebooks, especially now that the new All Romance app is available from Google Play!
The Droid can open Epub, Adobe Acrobat, HTML, Secure Adobe and Secure Adobe Epub files, which makes it a pretty handy device indeed! However, to get the full functionality, you will need to install a free app or two from Google Play (newer devices) or the Android Market (older devices) first.
Installing the Apps
Digi recommends the All Romance eBooks app, the Aldiko app, and the Bluefire Reader app. The All Romance app allows you to easily purchase and download files, while Aldiko and Bluefire can open those wonderful downloaded files, including the Secure ones! To install each app, follow the steps below.
- Go to Google Play or Android Market and type the app name into the Search box.
- Select the app from the list that appears and tap the “Install” (Google Play) or “Free” (Android Market) button.
- Tap “Accept & Download” (Google Play) or “OK” (Android Market) on the permissions page.
- For Bluefire Reader, the Adobe ID Authorization window will open next. This is a very critical step, as the Adobe ID is what will allow you to open Secure Adobe and Secure Epub files using Bluefire. Enter your Adobe ID and password into the text boxes and click “Authorize”. If you do not have an Adobe ID yet, click the link to access the Adobe website and create one.
- The app will download and then appear in the All Apps menu.
After the apps are installed, you’re ready to begin downloading your books.
Downloading to Bluefire Reader
- Login to your All Romance/OmniLit account using either the All Romance app (older devices) or Google Chrome (newer devices). Tap on the download link for the format you want to download.
- The download will begin.
- When the download is complete, the Bluefire notification window will open. To view the Bluefire bookshelf, tap the Go to Library button.
- The book is now in your Bluefire Library!
Downloading to Aldiko
- Login to your All Romance/OmniLit account using either the All Romance app (older devices) or Google Chrome (newer devices). Tap on the download link for the format you want to download.
- The download will begin.
- When the download is complete, open Aldiko and click on “Files”.
- Select the “download” folder.
- Select the book you want to open from the list of downloaded files.
- Tap the “Import” button to import the file to Aldiko.
- You’re now ready to enjoy your shiny new book!

Gee the Lenovo tablet refuses to download Aldiko. Tried thru various methods, but just says nope! Weird glitch no doubt cause it has no problem on the 7″ Samsung. Hmm….any thoughts Digi.
Thanks,
Jaxs
How about the Kobo, is there an easy way to download files directly to it? Thanks.
Cheers,
Jaxs
Cheers Jaxs!
Digi has discovered that sometimes one device will have a problem with a particular app while another will not, which is why Digi is continually testing devices and apps to find out the best combinations. This post was geared to the Droid smartphone rather than an Android tablet, but she can tell you that the Lenovo isn’t listed as a compatible device for OverDrive Media Console yet either. It may be the apps haven’t been adapted or approved for release on that device yet.
Digi is planning to provide instructions for downloading to the Kobo Vox soon, so stay tuned!
