One of the things Digi loves most about her job is that she gets asked lots of great questions! Here’s one Digimonkey received the other day.

“I see all these wonderful books on the All Romance and OmniLit home pages that are listed as Featured Books and New Releases, but how are the books selected to appear in those sections?”

Want to know the answer?  Read on…

Whenever you’re looking at the home pages for OmniLit or All Romance (which Digi does constantly), the first thing you’ll see just below the banner is the Featured Books section. But what is a Featured Book and how does it get there?

Featured Books

Currently, the Featured Books section is curated by the All Romance staff, which means books are specifically chosen to appear in that section, as opposed to being paid advertising or random selection. There is one exception. The author who contributes The Daily Sizzle in the Wildfire newsletter gets a complimentary spot in the Featured Books section for the week.

Some authors and publishers have asked Digi whether the Featured Books section will ever be open for paid advertising.  At this time, that option is not available, but if that changes, the details will appear on the Advertising page of the website.

Digi would also like to point out that there are actually two Featured Books sections, because different books are displayed on the OmniLit and All Romance home pages.

The New Releases section is located directly below the Featured Books, and displays the same titles on both sites.  Books displayed in this section are selected as a dynamic rotation rather than being curated by staff.

New Releases

All titles with covers that are suitable for a general audience are eligible (Erotica and certain images are filtered out).  Each book is time stamped at the point of the creation of the book record and placed in queue. Whenever the home page for either site is refreshed, the system pulls the most recent eligible titles from the queue. Depending on the number of titles being uploaded at any one time, a title could enjoy many minutes or none on the home page, which is why it’s a good idea to check the New Releases section often to keep up with all the fabulous new books being uploaded to the site.

And now that Digi has explained how the Featured Books and New Releases work, she’s off to do some ebook shopping!
