Transferring ebooks to the Sony eReader
Adding books to the Reader for PC or MAC software is all well and good, but you want to read those books on your Sony eReader. So let’s get those ebooks transferred!
- Turn on your Sony eReader device and plug it into the computer using the USB cable.
- Open the Reader for PC or MAC software. You will see a new tab at the top that shows the Reader device.
- Drag and drop the book(s) you want to add to the Sony eReader from the shelf in the Reader software to the “Reader” tab at the top of the screen. A green plus + symbol will appear when the cover image is over the Reader tab.
- The Sync pop-up window will appear and the book will be transferred to your eReader device.
- Click the Eject button to the right of the Reader tab at the top of the screen to disconnect the device from the computer. The Reader tab will disappear. It is then safe to unplug the device from the USB cable.
- The eReader will process the new content and then display the files in the Books section of the eReader device.
One word of caution
Digi feels she would be remiss if she didn’t point out the one flaw she has discovered with the Reader software. It’s a very “grabby” program, meaning that it will set itself as the default program for all downloads and will override previous preferences set for other programs, such as Adobe Digital Editions, Adobe Reader, and Calibre. If you choose to use Reader for PC or MAC, it will make it a bit more challenging to use other ebook apps on the same computer, as you’ll have to prevent Reader for taking control of the files.
