Sarah’s Heart by Ginger Simpson is an interracial, historical romance with a rich and colorful story, gripping from beginning to the end. The Wild West, complete with Indians and settlers, is always fascinating and Sarah’s Heart begins right off with a major clash between both. Sarah is the sole survivor and so begins her journey. The first person to help is an Indian. Wolf cannot change who he is and just wants to be left alone instead of judged for what he cannot change. Sarah is ...more
Promises Kept by Erosa Knowles has an intricate plot and memorable characters. Her novels are known for having ordinary characters caught up in extraordinary circumstances. Here we have two normal people who are in a unique situation. A huge twist happens in the story involving Karyn’s sister that was completely imaginative, although a bit bittersweet at the end. At the start of the story, Flynn’s character is cold and callous towards Karyn. It was clear he was still working through his issues of honoring ...more
Body of Art by Nikki Winter is a sassy short story featuring a contemporary plot with a fun and young interracial couple. The plot is fairly straightforward and centers around Sully and Channing’s dance to avoid the obvious fact that they are both attracted to each other. I found this story similar to my other recommended read written by Winter because the characters share the same familiar and very relatable feel. The faux antagonist relationship between the main characters is also similar. It is ...more
The Sweetest Thing by Nikki Winter is a very refreshing and enjoyable contemporary, interracial romance. The introduction immediately pulls you into the story with a funny exchange between Kov and Harper. Right away it sets the tone for the rest of the plot and also establishes the way the characters interact with each other. Harper and Kov seem to almost have their own personal language with which they communicate. Both are deprecating but also know there is no real meanness behind the harsh comments ...more
